Victorian Masonry: Brick Rebuild in Leslieville

The Project

This was a fun and challenging project dismantling and rebuilding the bottom 7ft of this Victorian facade on Eastern Avenue.

Built in 1888. We were tasked with rebuilding the lower reaches.

The work area was tight and the facade is situated just 12ft from the curb of a busy street. With a constant flow of traffic and a truck parked on the sidewalk, we demolished the parged sections while supporting the remaining facade with strongboys and jack posts. Parking enforcement gods shone down on us and we were able to get rid of the debris in 2 days worth of trips.

Our Approach

During the rebuild we used Ibstock orange stock and Watsontown upper Canada brick to give it some variance. We installed new limestone sill and lintel as the wooden ones had rotted out. There was a few nice details in this one that included polychromatic brickwork and alternating rock face brick coursing.
