Facade Reface | Victorian Brick Restoration
Toronto Masonry Restoration is the number 1 company for facade restoration. In 2021 we were the masonry contractor on almost half the heritage grant projects in the city that involved a full facade rebuild. We have a proven track record of being able to carefully dismantle and rebuild the most intricate and detail oriented masonry facades in the city. If the facade of your Victorian brick building has fallen into disrepair – we have the skill and expertise to restore it.
Window & Door opening alterations
A common aspect of any renovation is changing placement and sizing of windows and doors. With brick being the common building product in Toronto, it is necessary to hire an experienced mason to accommodate these changes by making alterations to the masonry. From making minor changes to creating large openings in structural walls, we’ve done it all.
REpointing (Tuckpointing)
When the mortar joints in your masonry walls recede back from the face of the brick/ stone work by more than 3/8ths of an inch, it’s time to consider repointing. We carefully cut out the existing mortar to a controlled depth. We clean the joints and then use a hawk and slicker to apply the new custom made mortar to match in with the original mortar.
Brick Restoration / Brick REpair
If the face of your brickwork starts to spall and crumble, it’s time to assess the cause of the deterioration and then replace the deteriorated brick. There is no surface treatment or sealer you can put on spalling brick to fix them. Replacing them and fixing the cause of deterioration is best practise i.e leaky gutter or downspout. We have the expertise and skill to replace any amount of brick on your building.

Limewash
Limewash is a natural permeable eco-friendly paint safe for all masonry. It is made by mixing calcium oxide with water to make a slurry. It is then applied to the substrate using a masonry brush. Multiple coats are usually required. It is typically applied to lime renders, brick and stone walls. It is a great option for brightening up your basement walls without trapping moisture or for finishing a feature wall. It has a matte finish and is naturally white in colour, however natural earth pigments can be added to colour the limewash.
